Fishing is one of my husband's many loves. There's me, fishing, and his motorcycle, not exactly in that order. And while being with him for 11 years has made me a decent fisher-lady, I certainly don't have a profound love for it like he does. But I will let yall in on a little secret of mine, if I ever need an evening alone, all I have to do is mention fishing and off he goes. So naturally, one of my favorite gift ideas for him is fishing stuff, but being a novice fisher, I don't really know anything about lures, bait, or line strength. In fact, I just recently upgraded to be able to put my own worm on a hook.
So any product that takes the guesswork out of buying him fishing supplies is great for me. Mystery Tackle Box will keep us both guessing but in a good way. Mystery Tackle Box is a monthly subscription service that keeps both novice and expert fishermen in mind. Each month they send out a variety of high-quality fishing products such as lures, tackle, limited edition products, apparel, and more. But you choose what type of species you fish for. When you sign up you can choose from these varieties: Bass, Walleye, Trout, Panfish, Catfish, Inshore Saltwater and a seasonal Ice Fishing. That way you don't get products that you're never going to use.
Currently, Mystery Tackle Box offers two plans to choose from, Regular and Pro. The Regular plan only costs $14.99 a month for products worth about $25 in value, plus you can change your species at any time. The Pro Plan costs $24.99 a month and has an estimated value of about $40. With the Pro Plan you can choose from Bass, Walleye, and Inshore Saltwater species only. They also have the option to Gift a Subscription, which I think, would make for an awesome present.

I received one of their Regular Plan boxes to review and I was pretty impressed. Inside the box, there were 5 products (4 Tackle & 1 Apparel), a Welcome Aboard pamphlet, and a Mystery Tackle Box sticker. The tackle inside the sub box were definitely items I would never have been able to pick out for my husband but he sure loved them! His favorite item was the River2Sea Bubble Popper 65 in the color/style Terminator. This popper both creates sound and leaves a trail of bubbles. It measures 2 1/2" and features 2 #6 Daiichi Treble Hooks. Another great tackle is the Zero Gravity Jig in the color PB&J. This jig has the ability to fall 1 foot every 3 seconds and features a 4/0 black nickel VMC Jig Hook.
The third tackle provided in the Mystery Tackle Box is the XRM Spy Series Reaction Strike Spy Bait. This bait measure 4" long and weighs .80 oz so it sinks below the surface of the water. Then the dual propellers churn the water and imitate a wounded fish. I personally have heard many great things about this product and can't wait to try it out for myself. The last but certainly not least tackle provided in this sub box is the Mizmo Bait Company 3.75" Scorpions. A pretty basic bait.

The last and most unexpected item I received inside the Mystery Tackle Box was the Ugly Fishmas Thermal Necko. It's as hilarious as it is practical for the winter weather. It features a typical holiday themed coloration with red fish on a green background but the best part is the fleece lining. It's sure to keep your head, face, and neck warm if you're out on a cold day at the lake. If you've never owned a product like this, they are pretty amazing because depending on how you fold it, you can wear it many different ways. But this one has two purposes, not only does it keep you warm but it's great for keeping those annoying bugs out of your nose and mouth. A great addition!
All of these items are really top quality! My husband was beside himself when he opened the box. It was like watching a little boy open up the biggest present. He immediately asked when he could use them. If you have an angler in your life I really recommend getting them a subscription. The plans are affordable, plus they ship for free and don't charge sales tax in most states!
